TURN PHYSICAL GEOMETRY INTO USABLE CAD

Geomagic Design X combines 3D scan processing with history-based CAD tools for reverse engineering. Measured geometry can be rebuilt as editable sketches, features, solids and surfaces instead of remaining only as a polygon mesh.

The reconstruction strategy can follow nominal design intent, preserve as-built geometry, or combine both approaches in the same model. This is useful for legacy parts, modified tooling, replacement components, mating-part design and complex cast or freeform geometry.

REVERSE ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS

BUILD THE CAD MODEL AROUND THE NEXT STEP

The right reverse-engineered model depends on what the CAD needs to represent and what happens to it next. Design X can reconstruct clean nominal geometry, preserve important as-built conditions, or combine both approaches in the same history-based model.

  • Idealized reconstruction: restore design intent where wear, damage or manufacturing variation should not define the new model.
  • As-built reconstruction: preserve measured geometry where the physical condition, fit or modification matters.
  • Downstream CAD use: structure the finished model for modification, replacement manufacturing, analysis, documentation or integration into an existing assembly.
