Tracking the Scanner Instead of the Part

Dynamic tracking systems use an external optical tracker to follow a handheld scanner or probe in real time. Because the tracking reference is carried by the measurement system rather than a dense field of targets on the workpiece, operators can move around large tools, assemblies, fabricated structures, and other components with less surface preparation.

The systems differ in tracking volume, scanner working range, wireless configuration, photogrammetry, probing, and the ability to use individual components independently. CAMS looks at how those choices affect line of sight, repositioning, access, and the measurement task so the system fits the real working environment rather than only the nominal part size.
