TURN PHYSICAL GEOMETRY INTO USABLE CAD
Geomagic Design X combines 3D scan processing with history-based CAD tools for reverse engineering. Measured geometry can be rebuilt as editable sketches, features, solids and surfaces instead of remaining only as a polygon mesh.
The reconstruction strategy can follow nominal design intent, preserve as-built geometry, or combine both approaches in the same model. This is useful for legacy parts, modified tooling, replacement components, mating-part design and complex cast or freeform geometry.

A worn replacement part may need clean nominal geometry, while a fixture or adapter designed around existing equipment may need to preserve the measured as-built condition. Many reverse-engineering projects use both approaches in the same model.
Design X can compare reconstructed geometry back to the scan and move editable features into downstream CAD. The model should therefore be structured around how it will be changed, manufactured or integrated later, not only how closely a surface fits the measured data.
